A total of 60 students from 3 primary schools around the Taiping area were selected for Hong Leong Foundation's Student Assistance Programme (SAP) recently. The schools are SK Seri Aman, SJK ( C) Aulong and SJK ( T) St Theresa Convent. Sixty students from poor families but with good academic performance were selected to be given school bags, dictionaries, story books, stationeries, school uniforms and shoes. The programme was held at Hong Leong Bank (HLB), Taiping Branch and it started at 10.30am with the presence of Perak Regional Management Committee (PRMC) Chairman Mr Chim Weng Tuck and his committee members, as well as teachers and students from the 3 schools. Twenty students from each school attended this simple yet meaningful event. Presentation to the needy students began after the PRMC Chairman's speech. The presentation ceremony lasted about thirty minutes, which was then followed by group photo session. Three media groups (China Press, Sin Chew & Nanyang) were invited to provide coverage for this programme and they published the story on their respective newspapers on the 7 January 2010.
